IAR Embedded Workbench for Renesas SuperH

Complete development toolchain to maximize the performance and minimize the power consumption for SH-2A and SH2A-FPU-based applications.

User-Friendly IDE

Integrated development environment with project management tools and editor, including automatic checking of MISRA C rules (MISRA-C:2004), configuration files for all devices, linker and library tools, example projects and code templates.

Powerful Build Tools

Included is a highly optimizing C and C++ compiler for SH-2A and SH2A-FPU, runtime libraries and a relocating SH-2A assembler.

Comprehensive Debugger

C-SPY Debugger comes with a SH-2A simulator, support for RTOS-aware debugging on hardware and debugging system support including Renesas E10A-USB driver, C-SPY Debugger plugin SDK available for 3rd party debuggers and supports various linker output formats for debugging in 3rd party debug systems.

Latest Releases

IAR Systems are constantly updating and refining their tools with new features, new device support and extended capabilities.

Latest Version: 2.30

New Text Editor and Source Browser

A new text editor and source browser are introduced in this version. The new features include auto completion, parameter hint, code folding, block select, block indent, bracket matching, zoom and word/paragraph navigation. The new source browser adds features like Go to Declaration and Find All References to symbols.

New Licensing Management System (LMS) Introduced

The new LMS used with this release introduces new features like commuter licenses, automatic license activation and support for virtual servers. It is easier to administer and a new single CD concept enables all variants of IAR Embedded Workbench for a certain product to be included in one and the same installer.

Improved Optimization

The compiler optimizes for higher execution speed compared to the previous version.

Sampled Graphs in C-SPY

It is now possible to specify variables for which you want to collect data samples. You can view the sampled data either in table format in the Data Sample window or as graphs in the Sampled Graphs window.

Custom SFR Window

It is now possible to define custom SFR’s (special function registers) in C-SPY with selectable access size and type.

Call Graph Window

A new Call Graph window has been added. It is browsable and displays all calls made to and from each function from any source file in the active project.

Macro Quicklaunch Window

The new Macro Quicklaunch window makes it possible to evaluate expressions and to launch C-SPY macros. The return value from the evaluated macro or expression is shown in a separate column and the user can re-trigger the evaluation at any given point.

Updated Device Support and Example Projects

SFR header files, linker configuration files and device description files have been added for the latest Renesas devices together with various new example projects.

Latest Version: 2.20

Improved Optimization

The compiler has been improved to optimize for higher execution speed, compared to the previous version. These improvements include options for more aggressive loop unrolling and function inlining.

C-SPY E10A-USB Emulator Debugger Improvements

  • Statistical Application Profiling based on Trace Data
  • Support for Software Breakpoints
  • Possibility to set breakpoints during program execution
  • Improved startup time

Timeline Window

A new Timeline window in the simulator allows graphically correlated visualization of call stack and interrupt log plotted against time.

It is now possible in the IDE to save a project workspace with a new name.

Call Graph Window

A new Call Graph window has been added. It is browsable and displays all calls made to and from each function from any source file in the active project.

Thread-Safe Libraries

The DLIB library now has improved support for threaded environments.

Linker Improvements

A new option –search directory has been added that searches for object files and libraries in a specified path. A new Migration Guide has also been added describing differences between ELF/DWARF based products with ILINK and UBROF based products with XLINK.

Subversion

The version control integration has been extended with support for Subversion (SVN).

Automatic Selection of printf/scanf formatter

The compiler/linker parses the printf/scanf format specifiers and select the smallest possible formatter from the library.

Virtual Function Elimination (VFE)

The compiler/linker optimizes C++ applications and removes unused virtual functions.

Updated Device Support

Device support has been added for the latest Renesas devices.
