Firstly it’s a radar velocity sensor, it measures the velocity of a moving object, usually water, but it can measure the velocity of almost anything that moves.
- Why is radar a good thing ?
Because it’s non-contact: the Raven-Eye is placed above the water surface, that means it does not need routine cleaning or maintenance. Radar sensors have been working for years in sewers with no servicing at all!
The velocity data can be combined with a level/depth sensor to produce volumetric flow readings, the flow can be calculated with our control unit which also displays, logs and outputs data, but you can use your own control if you want.
- Can I connect my own control unit or PLC ?
Yes, the Raven-Eye comes with a RS-485 communication port with MODBUS (ASCII) protocol. The communication standard is open and free to use for any PLC programmer. The Raven-Eye also disposes of one configurable 4-20 mA output for raw velocity, mean velocity or other configurable parameters.
- How do I configure my measuring site ?
The Raven-Eye is configured with the RTQ-Log data management software. Connect your computer directly to the Raven-Eye or to the RTQ family of flow loggers to transfer your measuring site configuration. For stationary application with the Unitrans, you can configure your flow system directly with the 10 button keypad of the Unitrans monitor.
Almost anywhere! As long as the velocity is between 0.15 m/s and 9 m/s, it will “see” the target move. It’s IP68 and has a robust PU enclosure, so it can be used in wetted or aggressive areas and it won’t be damaged if its submerged in water (but as it’s a radar it won’t work underwater). Refer to the specification sheet for full details.
- Give an example of where it can be used !
Real time sewer monitoring and control, because you can rely on the data you can use it to automatically control sewer flows, including storm discharges to rivers.
- Does it have any history ?
Yes, it’s the latest product from Flow-Tronic, we have been selling and installing radar flow meters for over 15 years. The Raven-Eye is the latest evolution of non-contact radar flow meters you will find on the market.
- How long will it last ? How do I know if it’s working ok ?
It has a 2 year warranty, but we have customers using radar sensors that are over 15 years old that are working extremely well! Moreover, internal sensors monitor and report the condition or “health” of the system.
